Surrey Competes at the Atemi Nationals 2014

November 14, 2014

Last weekend saw hundreds of participants making their way to one of the largest Jitsu competitions in the country and among them were the students of Surrey Jitsu.

Many members made it through to the second round of the competitions and Richard is recognised as one of the top grades in the country by making it to the Dark Blue belt final!

On the Saturday evening there was the usual night out in Sheffield, though the costumes for this year's Disney theme seem to be a little sparse on the ground (or on the Jitsuka):

It Dis-ney work as a theme party if you don't wear a costume!  Must try harder next year.

All in all, I think it's fair to say everyone had a good time on and off the mat and learned a lot.  It's great that the competitions are not exclusively for the elite athletes amongst us and that the largest contingent by far were the Novices.  Please click here to take a look at our photos and if you would like to get involved with Jitsu so you can represent Team Surrey at a regional or national level, do get in touch via our Contact Us form.

"The Nationals gave me a better perspective of what I could potentially achieve with Jitsu given time and commitment.  Watching the higher grades train was an experience in itself.

I also really felt like part of a team, comparable to when I played rugby, which I hadn't been expecting."
