About Jiu Jitsu
Surrey Jitsu practices the traditional Japanese martial art of Jiu Jitsu, which has evolved as very useful method of modern, practical self-defence.
Jiu Jitsu, often shortened to Jitsu, is based on the traditional styles of Jiu Jitsu that originated and were developed in medieval Japan by the samurai.
The core of the art comprises a system of throws, joint locks and strikes. Based on the principle of using an aggressor’s energy to their own disadvantage, Jitsu skills can be used by men, women and children to counter aggressive situations ranging from unwanted harassment to armed physical assault.
It is a very practical martial art, rather than a sport, and is therefore ideal for self-defence. Effectiveness is based on technique, not strength.
This means you do not need to be particularly strong, big or flexible. Although general fitness will help, Jitsu is also an excellent way to develop your fitness.

Regular training can help to improve strength, fitness, flexibility, co-ordination and posture.
Moreover, most people find over time that Jitsu improves their self-esteem and self-confidence. Advanced training levels are highly challenging and foster exceptional levels of physical and mental control.
